When the apostle Paul speaks of husbands loving their wives in his epistle to the Ephesians, he was implying that the relationship should be one of love, sacrifice, devotion and care. There is a mutual, unreserved commitment on both sides, Jesus gave Himself up for the church, the believers, the body of Christ and He held nothing back. The bridegroom is symbolic of Jesus who is coming back to unite with the bride (the Church). The marriage of the bride (Church) is with Jesus (Bridegroom) because He’s the only being that can come into intimate and perfect union with a human bride (Church). You see He’s not just the Son of God; He’s the Son of man.
